Our clinic offers menopausal symptom relief with bio-identical hormone replacement therapy. After menopause an abrupt decline in female hormones in the body cause the body to undergo a "shock" which is experienced as hot flashes, night sweats, mood fluctuations, irritability, as well as more milder symptoms like lack of control of urination and leakage of urination in the middle of the night, decrease in libido and lack or interruption of sleep that in a long run would have adverse effect on the immune system and functioning of other organs including thyroid.
There are many different ways to treat this hormone imbalance. In the past, synthetic hormones such as Premarin, which is taken from horse urine, was widely used but the correlation with breast cancer make more clinicians stay away from synthetic hormones. Bio-identical hormones are not taken from horse urine but they have chemical structures identical to your own hormones from ovaries. The best management in our office is to use night time bio-identical progesterone as only modality for hormone therapy. For a very small percentage of women we may add bio-identical estrogen (a very small clear color patch) in addition to progesterone. We do not offer pellet implants because we believe that a big dose of hormone being implanted in your body can cause more harm than benefit. And everybody should be aware that even bio-identical hormone therapy, if overdosed, may cause cancer as well. We offer saliva tests to evaluate hormone imbalances as well.
